3 "Dirty" (and Sexy) Ways to Boost Your Health Tonight

[Ed. Note: Here at the Daily Reckoning, we strive to bring you a unique and entertaining view of the world of finance. But we also realize that there’s more to this world than money. After all… what good is money if you don’t know how to enjoy it? So as part of our ongoing “Tip of the Day” series — brought to you by our friends at Laissez Faire Today — we’re proud to share this little actionable tip on living a happier, healthier and more enjoyable life than you ever thought possible. Enjoy!]

“Why should we take advice on sex from the Pope?” George Bernard Shaw once quipped. “If he knows anything about it, he shouldn’t!”

People have a lot of wacky theories about sex.

But one thing that science has proven… regardless of what you, me, or anyone else thinks of it…

Is that it’s absolutely… unequivocally… unabashedly…

Healthy!

So begins our three “dirty” ways to boost your health today…

First way is simple: Have more sex.

People who have more sex have been shown to experience better heart health… less stress… better sleep… a better immune system… a better overall mood and outlook on life… better skin…

[Catching my breath…]

Sex helps as a pain reliever… it strengthens nails… it zaps zits (by balancing our hormones)… and some studies even suggest that sex helps to ward off prostate cancer in men and breast cancer in women.

There you have it.

Best part? It’s free! (Well, not always. But that’s your business.)

That’s it. A one step-program: More sex.

The second way? Kiss more healthy people. French kiss if they’re really healthy.

For each 10-second French kiss, one study found, you receive 80 million bacteria from the other person.

Sound disgusting, but this bacteria swap may actually be great for you.

“There are a number of studies that show if the diversity in bacteria increases — more different types of species — this is a good thing,” Remco Kort, a professor and scientist at Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research told Time.

Kissing, Kort says, could act as a form of immunization. Like an organic vaccine, kissing may allow you to build up resistance by exposing yourself to varied microorganisms in small amounts.

“If you look at it from this point of view,” Kort says, “kissing is very healthy.”

Kort does admit that the health benefits do depend on, of course, whom you choose to kiss, and what types of bacteria they’re carrying.

So, two steps on this one: Kiss lots. But kiss wisely.

And the last, but definitely not least “dirty” way to boost your health?

Stop wearing deodorant, cologne, or perfume and let your natural odors fly.

Yes, you should ditch your deodorant and all that smell-good you love so much.

Why? First, there’s an amazing amount of crap in your deodorant, antiperspirant, and cologne that’s terrible for you.

To name a few: aluminum, penetration enhancers (like propylene glycol, disodium EDTA, and more), triclosan (which is a hormone disrupter), BHT (stuff’s toxic to the brain and CNS)… the list goes on.

[If you must use deodorant, try to find natural stuff to use on your pits. Jennifer Palmer of the The New York Times swears that rubbing her armpits with a sliced lemon does the trick.]

But there’s another reason you should ditch the fragrances: to help a compatible mate sniff you out. (So you can bump uglies and kiss for optimal health.)

I’ll let author and blogger Rohan Healy take it from here…

“Our natural scent,” Rohan writes, “contains vital information on compatibility levels between friends, partners, and even business colleagues…

“So much of our attraction to people, and our compatibility is actually encoded into the chemical makeup of our scent.”

He mentions a study where women are asked to smell a random selection of men’s used shirts. The women were asked to rate each shirt they sniffed with the level of attraction they feel from its scent.

Something interesting happened when they tallied the results…

The more dissimilar the woman’s immune systems was to the man’s who lent his shirt for science, the higher the rating the shirt received.

The researchers theorize that this is an evolutionary impulse. Unconsciously, on a primal level, we understand that diversity breeds more robust life. The more dissimilar the immune systems, the more rugged the offspring’s system will be.

By covering up your natural scent with musk or grapefruit vanilla (or whatever it is you wear), you could be confusing your mate’s senses.

So there you have it. Having more sex…kissing more… and adopting a more pungent fragrance leads to a happier, healthier, and more hardy life.

Now get out there and show ‘em what you got!
